Our resin is Black in color – not Amber or Gold – in our experience/opinion the Black Resin seems to hold up better and have a longer life. The black resin works just like the Amber or gold – just a different color. WORKS WITH MOST WATER SOFTENER BRANDS INCLUDING. COMMON SYMPTOMS THAT MAY INDICATE IT IS TIME TO REPLACE YOUR WATER SOFTENER RESIN ARE:-LOW WATER PRESSURE. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE RESIN GELLING UP AND LEADS TO WATER PRESSURE LOSS. NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY SUCH AS NOT SOFTENING OR REMOVING IRON. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE BEADS “CRACKING” AND LOSING THEIR FUNCTIONALITY. THIS IS COMMON ON CITY WATER WHERE THE CHLORINE DRIES OUT THE RESIN. A MAJOR PART OF A WATER SOFTENER IS THE MEDIA INSIDE OF IT. IF YOUR SOFTENER IS WORKING MECHANICALLY, BUT NOT SOFTENING THE WATER, THEN REPLACE THE MEDIA INSIDE, INSTEAD OF THE WHOLE WATER SOFTENER. THE RESIN IS PACKED IN ONE CUBIC FOOT BAGS. PLEASE USE CHART BELOW TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH IS NEEDED FOR YOUR TANK. 8″x 44″ TANK 3/4 BAG. 9″x 48″ TANK 1 BAG. 10″x 54″ TANK 1.5 BAGS. 12″ OR 13″ DIAMETER TANK 2 BAGS. The process for replacing your resin is simple. Just open your Softener (not the salt tank) and Wet-Vac the old resin out, then pour the new stuff in. Then, backwash your system and you’re good to go! The item “Water Softener Replacement Resin 8% Cross Linked 1.0 Cubic Feet High Quality” is in sale since Saturday, January 5, 2019. Press res pressure-relief button (if present). Removal large o-ring, wipes clean, and set aside. Discard used filter cartridge. Wash housing with dish soap warm water using a nonabrasive sponge or cloth. Lubricate o-ring with clean silicone grease. Insert o-ring in groove. Insert new filter cartridge. Screw housing onto the cap and hand-tighten. Make sure cap standpipe slip into cartridge. A carbon cartridge may contain carbon fines (very fine black powder). After installation, flush cartridge for 10 minutes, wait an hour, then flush again for 10 minutes before using the water. It is recommended that you run the tap at least 20 seconds prior to using for water for drinking or cooking purposes. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. Protect against freezing to prevent cracking of the filter and water leakage. To prevent costly Repairs or possible water damage the sump of plastic housing must be replaced every five years for clear, and ten years for opaque. If sump is older than recommended, replace immediately. Date sump for reference and indicate replacement date. COMMERCIAL RO SYSTEM (AS PRE FILTER). USE AS PER-TREATMENT OR POST FILTRATION FOR SOFTENING & RO SYSTEMS. 1.5 CU FT OF UDF. Carbon is a substance that has a long history of being used to absorb impurities and is perhaps the most powerful absorbent known to man. One pound of carbon contains a surface area of roughly 125 acres and can absorb literally thousands of different chemicals. Activated carbon which has a slight electro-positive charge added to it, making it even more attractive to chemicals and impurities. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface, the negative ions of the of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules. Activated carbon filters used for home water treatment typically contain either granular activated carbon or powdered block carbon. Although both are effective, carbon block filters generally have a higher contaminant removal ratio. The two most important factors affecting the efficiency of activated carbon filtration are the amount of carbon in the unit and the amount of time the contaminant spends in contact with it. The more carbon the better. Similarly, the lower the flow rate of the water, the more time contaminants will be in contact with the carbon, and the more absorption that will take place. Particle size also affects removal rates. The most common carbon types used in water filtration are bituminous, wood, and coconut shell carbons. While coconut shell carbon typically costs 20% more than the others, it is generally regarded as the most effective of the three. All of our activated carbon filters use coconut shell carbon. There are two principal mechanisms by which activated carbon removes contaminants from water; absorption, and catalytic reduction, a process involving the attraction of negatively-charged contaminants ions to the positively-charged activated carbon. Organic compounds are removed by absorption and residual disinfectants such as chlorine and chloramines are removed by catalytic reduction. Activated carbon filtration is very common in a number of home water treatment systems. It can be used as a stand alone filter to reduce or eliminate bad tastes and odors, chlorine, and many organic contaminants in municipal (pre-treated or chlorinated) water supplies to produce a significantly improved drinking water. It is also very commonly used as a pre-treatment as part of a reverse osmosis system to reduce many organic contaminants, chlorine, and other items that could foul the reverse osmosis membrane. 0.5 block filters are commonly used to remove systs such as giardia and crytosporidium. Activated carbon filters remove/reduce many volatile organic chemicals (VOC), pesticides and herbicides, as well as chlorine, benzene, trihalomethane (THM) compounds, radon, solvents and hundreds of other man-made chemicals found in tap water.
