Whole House Calcite pH Neutralizing Water System Manual Back Wash System 948
Whole House Calcite pH Neutralizing Filter. Manual BackWash Valve 1 Pipe Connection. Calcite is a naturally occurring calcium carbonate media. One of the advantages of Calcite is its self-limiting property. When properly applied, it corrects pH only enough to reach a non-corrosive equilibrium. It does not over correct under normal conditions. Upon contact with calcite, acidic waters slowly dissolve the calcium carbonate to raise the pH which reduces potential leaching of copper, lead and other metals found in typical plumbing systems. Periodic backwashing will prevent packing, reclassify the bed and maintain high service rates. Depending on pH, water chemistry and service flow, the Calcite bed will have to be periodically replenished as the Calcite is depleted. As the Calcites calcium carbonate neutralizes the water, it will increase hardness and a softener may become necessary after the neutralizing filter. Raises pH of water to a non-corrosive equilibrium. Naturally occurring, inexpensive material. Low uniformity coefficient for maximum contact. Slower Reacting for controlled pH correction. This unit comes with the Following. 1 – 948 FRP Tank (Color Varies) – Includes Distributor Cap Upper & Lower & tube. Valve – 1 Pipe Connection. 1 – CU FT Calcite. 1 – Gravel Underbed. Manual Whole House Water Filtration Valve. 1″ In & 1′ Out & 1″ Drain. Works for Iron Filter System, Carbon GAC Filter System, Calcite Filter System, Birm Filter System or other systems requiring backwash & rinse cycle. Fits regular FRP/Mineral Tanks of 2 1/2 Tank Thread. Inexpensive replacement water filter valve which fits 2 1/2 Tank Thread such as Fleck/Clack/Autotrol/Watts. Manual Controls are simple, reliable and inexpensive. Perfect for medias that require infrequent back washing or locations that lack electrical power. It has very few moving parts and easy to use. When you need to backwash a filter, you put in into the backwash cycle for 10 minutes, followed by a rinse of 3 minutes, and then back into the service mode. That is all there is to it! Once a week schedule for back washing is generally sufficient. For a more economical product and ease of use, we recommend you get this rather then opting for unit that does not backwash. Benefits and Importance of a Backwash Cycle. As filter operates in service mode, it collects particles in the filter bed. Also, since water’s nature is to follow the path of least resistance, after a time it begins to cut channels through the medium. As channels or holes in the media bed forms, water begins to flow around rather through the medium. This process is called “channeling” and it reduces the effectiveness of the filter considerably. The backwash is accomplished by sending the water down the riser tube from which it enters the filter tank at the bottom. The force of the water is such that it actually lifts the media bed, swirling and tossing the granular medium. The water leaves the filter tank through the control valve, which routes it through the filter’s drain line. Particles that were in the bed are washed to drain. The backwash is an intense rinsing and tossing of the medium that lasts for several minutes. In a standard residential filter, a typical backwash lasts about ten minutes. After the backwash, initiate a “rinse” of the bed during which water flows downward through the medium, up through the distribution tube and out the drain. The purpose of this rinse is to rinse and settle the bed and prepare it for return to service flow. A regular backwash schedule maintains the efficiency of the filter, as well as providing cleaner water. This item ships in multiple package. Ships only within US 48 States (APO Addresses Excluded).
